20 Things I Learned in my 20 Years of Living

10.14.19: I just turned 20!
(My bestfriend gave me these for my 20th birthday!!)

Just to give you a gist on why she gave me this small book of motivational quotes: I was really stressed with school and everything that was happening for the past few weeks, and she knew that I felt weak and really wanted to give up already. She's really sweet! :(

Living for 2 decades is not an easy thing. As I grew older, pressure, uncertainties, and anxiety really bumped me hard that I kind of got lost in the way. There were times when I didn't know what to do. I became indisposed. I grew tired of what I was doing for the past years, and surely I felt that I was lost that I don't know what to do with my life anymore since I started to think that my life was futile, that I was just doing the things that I was doing just for the sake of doing them.

But fortunately, behind all these battles in life is my optimistic mindset that I began to work on, and the people who were patient with me and prayed for me, and helped me become strong despite how weak I was before. I can't thank them enough for being there for me since day one.

20 Things I Learned in my 20 Years of Living

1. Let go, and let God.
I know. It's kinda common for people to say this, but believe me, let Him do the rest. Just do what you have to do and do it best.

2. Don't quit, just rest.
You're not incapable. You're not dumb. You're not lazy. You're just tired. Make sure to rest and take care of yourself. It will make you more productive afterwards!

3. BEING. HEALTHY. IS. LIFE. CHANGING.
I tried being healthy for a week (since I live in a dorm, it's kind of difficult to stay healthy since I have to rush and get things done asap and I have no time to cook proper meals) and I became really productive. I suggest you do meal plans or meal preps so that it wouldn't take up too much of your time! I'll try to keep this in mind, too. 😅

4. Writing and reading >>> numbers (oops, sorry accounting im still trying to love you)
For some people who really know me, I'm a bookworm, and I love to write. I just knew this when I was in college already, but I'm taking up BS Accountancy in university and I'm really trying my best!! :(

5. Obey yer parents, ya'll.
I'm not kidding. This is vvv important!! I learned a lot from my parents and they're the reasons why I grew up to be someone I am now. Also, to obey and honor your parents is to honor and obey God as well. Ephesians 6:1-3 says, " Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (which is the first commandment with a promise), that it may go well with you and that you may have a long life on the earth.”

6. Decluttering can help you destress!!
Having a messy room or workspace can really lessen your productivity. It makes you focus on other things like cleaning your space or whatsoever. It's not just your room that you can declutter; even your phone, laptop, etc!!

7. Youtube and Pinterest helped me study more hAH
I 'm not sure why, but watching and seeing people be productive makes me productive.  There was a time that I stopped using Youtube and Pinterest so that I could focus more on studying, but I ended up not being productive. I'll link below what accounts on Pinterest and channels on Youtube you can check and watch so that you'd be able to see what I'm talking about!

8. Being organized lets you be productive
                           Hmm, refer to #6?? HEHE.

9. HS friends are FOREVER!!!!!!!
Many people say that college friends stay forever, but for me, high school friends are for eternity!! There were times that I thought that my friends and I weren't going to last since we all belong to different schools, like La Salle, UST, Ateneo, and Enderun, but I was wrong. In fact, they're the ones who I run to whenever I have problems, and they're always there to respond to me. To me, these people are not just my friends, they're my sisters.

10. Drink water,,,, ALWAYS.
THIS IS A MUST!!! My brain doesn't work if I did not drink water. You'll get really drained if you don't drink your fluids! ++ it increases productivity! 😉

11. LISTS ARE HELPFUL
Refer to numbers 6 and 8! Lists make me want to accomplish everything that I wrote down and it's easier to look at compared to a calendar, which kind of makes me feel overwhelmed because of what I have to do for the next weeks and months. Although, don't get me wrong, calendars are very useful as well!! I use my calendar to track deadlines that are a bit far from the present week so that I'd be able to edit my lists every week.

12. Keeping a time capsule is a must!!
I've kept a time capsule to almost 6 years now, and I'm grateful that I made that way back when I was in high school. I got to keep my envelope full of palanca letters from recollections and retreats ever since first year high school ( grade 9), and whenever I feel down, I just read everything all over again. I also kept a batch picture from grade school, tickets from plays that I watched, tickets from concerts, banners from concerts, and even some props that we used during acquaintance parties in high school. There are so much memories in my time capsule that I couldn't just throw away the things in there.

13. Write, write, write
I have been writing for almost, I don't know, 3 years (??) already and I must say that I've helped myself a lot because of writing! This habit can help you destress and empty your brain so that you don't get too drained thinking of so many things all at once.  Doing brain dumps every morning and evening calms me down since I write everything that I am thinking about at that moment, and after that, my brain's...empty, I guess? I mean, I have other things to think about and these things that I write down are the ones that aren't really my priorities but really bothers me a lot since it's all in my head. I recommend you people to do this!! It's fun when you also find time to read those journals where you wrote these dumps. I find myself judging my own self way back and I can't imagine how my mind was going through all those stuff!

14. One step at a time.
College, specifically third year college, has been really stressing me out lately. I've been trying my best in everything but I just can't seem to find the balance of everything for me to be able to be satisfied with my performance in every aspect (academics, organizations, social life, family, etc.). I just thought to myself after seeing my grades this prelims that, hey, maybe I myself is the reason why this is happening. Like I get that I should study hard so that I would be able to reach my dreams and all, but taking care of myself is another thing. Thinking about my mental health is another thing, and these little things combined make up what my actions and outputs are showing. Recently, I've been telling myself to rest when I'm really tired, and I think there's some progress that I was able to increase my productivity and I'm proud of myself that I'm looking after myself.

15. Enjoy the little things.
You're still young. Don't stress too much about life. You've got a long way to go. Laugh if you must, laugh if you can, laugh it all out while you still can. Being satisfied with the life you are living can be tough, but hey, you'll become happier once you become contented.

16. CHANGE THE WORLD AND MAKE IT A BETTER PLACE FOR OUR FUTURE KIDS!
I don't know about you all, but I want to have kids in the future. I know some of you want kids too, and maybe a few might not want to bear one. But I'm not just speaking for our kids, I'm speaking also for our future selves. Change your habits and turn them into something you think you'll grow and mature. Change your mindset and be selfless. A 1% change and progress is still better than a 0% progress. Make time for yourself to meditate on these things, and start with yourself.

17. Control yourself.
In all things, try controlling yourself. Too much of everything can be bad and dangerous for you, and it's important to keep track if you're being too exaggerated or OA about things that you think are good for you.

18. Guard your heart, but once you find your God's Best, love with all your heart (but still know your boundaries! Set limits!).
It's very important to guard your heart because no one else will guard your heart. Patiently waiting for your God's Best is surprisingly amazing, and I'm telling you this from my experience. Also, it's okay to have an ideal person in mind, but once God gives you someone who is not like your ideal person, accept that person in your life and you'll never regret it. Once you find your God's best, it's still important to set you limits so that you won't get tempted onto doing this that aren't supposed to be done.

19. Live up to God's standards (!!!)
We all have our own standards, but God's standards are the best! We might think less of what He wants for us, but we think that because we want something for ourselves too. He wants the best for us, and I don't think it's worth it to just give up what He's going to give us just because we want what we want.

20. You gotta trust Him onli hehe
To live a happy life is to fully putting your trust in God no matter what happens. To live a happy life is to be satisfied with everything you have. Most people do not realize this because they always look for something more than what they have. It's okay to want these things, it's okay to dream, but to  be jealous of what others have and you don't is not worthy to think about. These things will just disappoint you. Be happy about the little things, and trust God along the way.
